S & J Nursery’s Guide to
Moderate or Mid Sized Shrubs
for Northeast Florida
In the Landscape your mid size shrub will normally be your middle layer of three foundation layers. The size of these plants will be determined by the size of the tallest layer or your backdrop shrub. For some that will be a 4 ft height and then this middle layer will need to grow to or be kept at somewhere around 2-3 ft. For others this middle layer may need to be no higher than that 2 ft mark due to low windows etc. forcing the backdrop layer to be at an already low height – those shrubs may also be found in the low growing listing.
