Florida Native Spiderwort

Spiderwort growing in my home landscape

Spiderwort is an excellent choice for a Florida Native perennial flower that blooms really beautifully in spring and again in fall in our area of NE Florida. They can also bloom intermittently throughout the year and tend to be more prolific both growing and spreading in moist areas of the landscape. It is such a bright vivid blue that it really grabs your attention at a distance. Each of the blooms may only last a day but they do a heck of a flower display on their day!

Although each plant clump has a short life span once you plant them in the landscape you are sure to always have them by way of volunteers that pop up here and there. Spiderwort reseed readily so be ready to dig and relocate the seedlings back into the landscape where you want them. The leaves flowers and stems are all edible so you can chop them up and throw the foliage into your salad or into your favorite soups and stews.
